Client Feedback on WordPress Sites, in Two Minutes

Install the free Scribelo plugin and paste your install line once. Clients then comment directly on your WordPress pages, on staging or live, without logging in to WordPress.

Your exact line, with your project key, is on the project's Share & install tab.

How to add Scribelo to WordPress

Scribelo needs one script tag before the closing </body> tag on every page. The Scribelo plugin adds it for you; if you'd rather not add a plugin, the other two options work just as well.

Option 1: the Scribelo plugin (easiest)

  1. Download the Scribelo plugin (a .zip file, no need to unzip it).
  2. In WordPress, go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, choose the file and click Activate.
  3. In Scribelo, open your project's Share & install tab and copy the install line.
  4. In WordPress, go to Settings → Scribelo, paste the line and save. Saving clears the common WordPress cache plugins for you.
  5. If your host or a CDN caches pages too (20i StackCache, Cloudflare, SiteGround, Kinsta…), purge it from your hosting control panel. Then open the review from Scribelo. It connects automatically.

You can pause reviews from the same settings page without losing your install line.

Option 2: your theme

If you maintain a child theme, add the line with the wp_footer hook in functions.php:

add_action('wp_footer', function () {
    echo '<script src="https://your-scribelo-address/snippet.js" data-project="pk_your_key" async></script>';
});

Avoid editing a parent theme directly: an update will overwrite your change.

Option 3: your page builder or a header-and-footer plugin

Most page builders have a site-wide custom code setting. In Elementor Pro, use Custom Code and set the location to the end of the body. In Divi, use the body code box in the theme's Integration settings. If the site already has a code-snippets or “insert headers and footers” plugin, paste the line into its footer (body end) box instead.

Only want it on staging? Add the line on your staging site only and point the Scribelo project at the staging address. Normal visitors never see anything either way: the script stays invisible unless someone opens a Scribelo review.

Things that can get in the way

  • Caching and optimisation plugins. Clear the cache after adding the line. If a plugin combines or delays scripts, exclude snippet.js from it.
  • Security headers. Some security plugins and hosts stop the site loading inside another page (X-Frame-Options or frame-ancestors). The review screen will tell you; clients can then open the site in its own tab with a floating toolbar, or comment on screenshots.
  • Password-protected staging. Reviewers need to be able to open the staging site in their own browser. Share the staging password, or log them in first.
  • Maintenance or “coming soon” mode. If logged-out visitors see a holding page, so will your client. Allow them through, or use screenshot mode.
What clients get

No WordPress login, no plugin for the client

Clients never touch wp-admin. They open their Scribelo link and comment on the pages as visitors see them.

WordPress feedback FAQs

Is there a Scribelo WordPress plugin?

Not at the moment. You don't need one: the one-line script works with any theme or builder, and installing it takes a couple of minutes with any header-and-footer plugin.

Will it affect my site speed or SEO?

The script loads asynchronously, so it doesn't hold up the page, and it doesn't add any visible content for normal visitors or search engines. You can also remove it once the project is signed off.

Do my clients need a WordPress account?

No. Clients use their personal Scribelo review link. They don't need WordPress access at all, which also means they can't change anything on the site by accident.

Should I remove the script after launch?

You can leave it in place for future rounds (it's invisible to visitors), or remove it after sign-off. Feedback and approval records stay in Scribelo either way.
